Procurement and Processing
We procure "safe and secure" raw marine ingredients and processed marine products from Japan and abroad and deliver them to customers.
Overseas, we use a network of partner companies in various countries. We rigorously examine quality, hygiene management, product standards, production structures, and other elements at each location before making purchases.
The purchased raw ingredients are filleted, cut, or sliced into sushi pieces under strict quality management standards at overseas affiliate facilities and partner plants. These can then be fried and frozen.
As well as consistently managing quality, we also oversee product taste, weight, shape and other specifications as part of efforts to create products that match the requirements of customers. In Japan, we have allocated full-time personnel to major fisheries, including in Hokkaido, Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture, Kesennuma in Miyagi Prefecture, and in Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Our staff directly buys seasonal catches from around the nation and seafood from fish farms that maintain high-quality and deliver high added value.
Since 2008, we have engaged in bluefin tuna aquaculture in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, to ensure stable supplies of high-quality tuna in response to growing worldwide demand for seafood.
As well as processing marine products overseas, we engage in production at plants in Japan that specialize in making delicacies with, or canning, raw marine ingredients.
The Mie Plant of Marine Foods maintains a production system that integrates everything from cleaning seaweed to packaging it, producing seafood salads, Chinese jellyfish and other delicacies.
The Hachinohe Plant of Hoko cans selected mackerel landed in the local port and other offerings that reflect the port’s special location.
The Mie Plant and the Hachinohe Plant obtained ISO 9001 certification, which attest to product quality and safety. These facilities maintain strict process controls on everything from raw ingredients to final products.
We have many sales units all over Japan that sell high-quality marine products directly to supermarkets, restaurants, and other customers. We have top share of the market for sushi ingredients. We offer diverse food materials and menus to accommodate the many customer and locational requirements as part of our thorough, locally oriented, sales activities.
Most of our sales units have refrigeration facilities that can store foods at specified temperature requirements-5°C, -20°C, or -40°C-as part of strict product quality control.
