The NH Foods Group procures raw materials, packaging and materials, livestock, and feed from all over the world. We believe that responsible procurement with consideration for the environment and society is important, and we promote sustainable procurement, which includes certified products.
NH Foods Ltd. participates in the Social Sustainability Working Group of the Japan Sustainability Local Group of The Consumer Goods Forum (TCGF), a global consumer goods distribution industry network, working to solve supply chain problems that are difficult to solve alone.

Palm Oil Procurement

Palm oil is a vegetable oil derived from the fruits of the oil palms and is used in various products such as the food ingredients and daily necessities all around us. While a large amount of demand and production are expected due to its versatility, human rights issues such as environmental destruction in tropical rainforests due to plantation development, child labor, and forced labor are occurring.
In August 2020, NH Foods Ltd. joined the RSPO* and set a target of switching 100% of the palm oil used for cooking products within the Group to sustainable palm oil by 2030.

In the future, the purchasing departments of each Group company will work together to help solve the environmental and human rights issues surrounding palm oil.

Note1: The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is an international non-profit organization which has built and operates a certification system that has become the standard for sustainable palm oil, and which encourages the production and distribution of such oil.

Paper Procurement

According to the Global Forest Resource Assessment 2020 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the world’s forest area decreased by an average of 4.7 million hectares per year between 2010 and 2020, causing problems such as climate change, air pollution, and ecosystem destruction.

To address these issues, the NH Foods Group uses FSC*-certified paper for packaging and materials used in some products and gifts.
In recent years, in order to reduce the amount of plastic used, we have been switching from plastic to paper for the packaging and materials used for some products.
